On 13 May 2026, the CBC team organized its bi-annual meeting with the project’s Advisory Board in an online format, enabling the participation of board members from across Europe and the United States: Professor Melinda Benkő (Budapest University of Technology & Engineering, Hungary), Annegret Haase (Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research, Leipzig, Germany), Professor Daniel B. Hess (Department of Urban and Regional Planning, University at Buffalo, United States), Professor John Pendlebury (Newcastle University, United Kingdom), and Professor Bohdan Tscherkes (Lviv Polytechnic National University, Ukraine).
The agenda focused on reviewing and discussing the current progress of the project across its various dimensions, including overall objectives and framework, development of the subprojects, and international cooperation and events.
Particular attention was given to identifying practical responses to challenges emerging from the fieldwork. Discussions addressed both thematic and methodological issues, such as the meanings of decolonization in relation to Soviet heritage, participation and local impact, and the transformation of public spaces within housing estates. The Advisory Board also provided valuable insights on comparative research design and the integration of theory and practice, while emphasizing opportunities to further strengthen the project’s impact.
The meeting concluded with a productive exchange of ideas and recommendations that will help inform the project’s future directions and activities.
